Maroon is a dark red color.

Maroon is derived from French marron ("chestnut").[2]
The first recorded use of Maroon as a color name in English was in 1789.[3]

- Maroon is the color of Heart of Midlothian F.C.; a Scottish professional football club based in Edinburgh.
- Maroon is an official color of many NCAA universities including Arizona State University, Calvin College, College of Charleston, University of Chicago (its sports teams are called "the Maroons"), Bethune-Cookman University, Texas State University, Mississippi State University, Southern Illinois University, Virginia Tech, Lafayette College, University of Minnesota, Fordham University, Texas A&M University, Central Michigan University, Boston College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Morehouse College.
- Maroon and white are also the traditional colors of County Galway and County Westmeath, Ireland, and are used by teams representing those counties in GAA or other sporting organization matches.
- Maroon is the color of the Queensland state rugby league team. It also forms part of the colors of the Brisbane Broncos National Rugby League team. Maroon was officially proclaimed as Queensland's State color in 2003, giving effect to the tradition of using maroon to represent Queensland, in particular for sporting teams.[5]
- Montreal Maroons were a professional hockey club in Canada.
- Maroon is the official color of A.S. Roma; an Italian professional soccer club from Rome.
- Maroon is the color of the Club Atlético Lanús, a football club from Lanús, Argentina.
