The video, recorded at a Bennett campaign event last weekend, has been posted on the “Stop Bob Bennett” website (www.stopbobbennett.com/video.php). It shows Mr. Bennett coaching Bennett supporters and would-be delegates to mislead their neighborhood precinct caucus meetings, falsely declaring their independence in order to win the support of anti-Bennett voters. “We’d be happy if you did that,” Bennett says, after describing the deceptive practice.
“This is the smoking gun,” said Club President Chris Chocola. “Bob Bennett’s campaign wants supporters to mislead their friends and neighbors at next week’s caucuses in order to trick Utah conservatives into electing them as delegates.”
“As shocking as these tactics are, they are no longer surprising,” Chocola said. “Sen. Bennett’s entire campaign has been one continuous deception about his big spending, his bailouts, his scandalous earmarking, his trillion-dollar health care takeover, and now, his utter contempt for the integrity of Utah’s democratic processes.”
“At long last, Bennett’s transformation from Utah conservative to Beltway Insider is complete,” Chocola said. “Bob Bennett is no longer bringing Utah’s best values to Washington; he’s bringing Washington’s worst values to Utah.”
